DO5PIP on Air

The Path to the Exam

The idea of becoming a ham radio operator had been on my mind for quite some time. I was fascinated by the combination of technology, communication, and the sense of community that defines this hobby. So, I decided to take the plunge and prepare for the exam.

The preparation was intense but incredibly exciting. I familiarized myself with the basics of electrical engineering, radio technology, and the legal regulations. The study materials were a real challenge, especially the technical aspects, but I learned a lot about the world of radio waves and electronics. Thanks to the support of experienced ham radio operators and an excellent online course, I was well-prepared in the end.

Exam Day

On the day of the exam, I was naturally nervous. But when the four question sheets were placed in front of me, I felt well-equipped. The exam was divided into four parts: Technical Knowledge N, Technical Knowledge E, Operational Procedures, and Legal Regulations. I am especially proud of acing the technical part, which had initially given me the most headaches.

When I finally received the news that I had passed, my joy was immense. I was officially a ham radio operator – and the adventure could begin.

My Callsign: DO5PIP

Upon passing the exam, I also received my personal callsign: DO5PIP. This callsign is not only a technical identifier but also a personal expression of my entry into the radio world. It now accompanies me in every radio contact and will undoubtedly carry many exciting stories in the future.
